Alternative Apparel, the industry-leading fashion basics company known for its unparalleled comfort and quality craftsmanship, today announced the launch of the limited-edition ―Message Bag, a creative collaboration with stylish leading actress and activist Olivia Wilde and her friend/partner-in-good Barbara Burchfield. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Academy for Peace and Justice, a secondary school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti funded by Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis’s charity, Artists for Peace and Justice. "This is not just a bag, it’s an opportunity for an education."

"I’ve been trying to figure out how to combine conscious commerce with my love for fashion," explains Wilde, who chose to work with Alternative Apparel, the label committed to ethically and environmentally responsible production practices, because ―"I wear their sweatshirts every day and live in their maxi dresses. And they’re good people!."

After frequent visits to Haiti, Wilde worked closely with Mollie Culligan, Alternative’s Accessories Director, and Burchfield to design a trusty and rugged-chic army canvas messenger bag. The convertible backpack/cross-body style is unisex, features pebbled leather trim, antique brass hardware and every purchase of the bag is an opportunity for an underprivileged child’s education. Alternative seeks to empower positive change in the community and provides products that are hand-crafted, with signature vintage softness and authenticity. Additionally, Alternative is committed to donate more bags, backpacks and supplies to the Academy for Peace and Justice throughout the year.

Olivia’s latest film “People Like Us” opens in theaters this Friday, June 29th.  She also has 9 other film projects coming out in the next year – she’s best known for starring on the hit TV show “House” and in movie roles such as In Time, The Change-Up, Tron, Alpha Dog, etc.

A little bit beach-y, a little bit bohemian jet set, and 100 percent natural and ethical, JADEtribe is the true embodiment of fashion with a conscience. Whether it’s the handbag repurposed from hand embroidered baby carrier cloths, or the hand braided jewelry that jingles, or the organically dyed and hand loomed traditional textiles, each element of JADEtribe carries in it a piece of Kimberly’s heart and a piece of the hearts of the women in South East Asia whose lives have been improved by making it.

Lighten Up Your Look

The pop singer and star of the hit show Victorious pulls off natural, laid-back beauty effortlessly. Recently being featured in Self Magazine Victoria Justice gives LPM a few beauty secrets to borrow.

"Don’t be afraid to play up your natural beauty. Natural is always such a chic look. Plus, it is so great to let your skin breathe.”

“It’s best to look like yourself. Play up your best features. If you have great eyes, then accentuate those. Or if you like your lips most, then use a great, bold lip color.”

“When I don’t look my best, I detox with raw foods and lots of water. It makes me feel better.”

“If I have no time to touch up, I get a natural glow by pinching my cheeks 10 times really hard. Well, not so hard that I bruise.”

“I don’t want to have to change my nailcolor whenever I put on a new outfit. I usually choose nude, because it matches whatever I wear.”

“I wash off my makeup every night before bed. It’s my number-one rule for good skin.”

“Guys like natural beauty. I get it. So find ways to make them think you are! My thing is lip stain. It stays put so you don’t have to constantly reapply.”

“I swirl a wet eyeliner brush in brown shadow, then swipe it along my lash line and a little past the corner for an easy cat eye.”

“I’m only 19, so I’m not super concerned about aging. But my mom didn’t drink, smoke or tan while growing up, and she looks great. I’m following her plan.”

Introducing: Gypsy Junkies

Gypsy Junkies is a contemporary women's line that embodies youth, freedom and boho style with the ingenuity and design perspective of creative directors Marcus Paglialonga, of Ron Herman’s Fred Segal fame, and Cynthia Crighton, a retail veteran. After successfully combining their talents on a variety of projects, Marcus and Cynthia took the next step into apparel and accessories, but first they traveled to all corners of the world to find inspiration and the best materials available.
Inspired by their international travels, as well as the street style of Los Angeles, Gypsy Junkies is a sartorial embodiment of bohemian youth…with just a hint of rebellion.  Worldwide inspiration blends with impeccable style and perfectly executed fit to encompass a line of apparel that transcends from day to night, and from casual to dressy. Combining boho sensibility with quintessential So-Cal edge, the Gypsy Junkies girl is always contemporary and never contrived.

On June 8, 2012 country singer and CMT award-winning star Carrie Underwood delivered an awe-inspiring performance at the 2012 CMA Music Festival with her heart-stopping vocals. The country sweetheart and Video of the Year winner glows while rocking out in her patriotic ensemble, including Gypsy Junkies silver sequin jean shorts.
